(Originally posted in group Feb 5 2015) You know I got to thinking last night that a lot of new folks don't know a stitch about who I am and how this little group came about. So I'm going to write a bit (pardon the ramblings from topic to topic---little sleep does that to a person) about myself.
My name is Amy Christensen. I was born in Blackfoot Idaho in 1977. I have two wonderful children, my daughter that will be 19 on the 21st and a son that will be 16 on May 5th. I have a wonderful boyfriend that treats me so darn well, sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky with him. I have a HUGE extended family (not including my soapy sisters and brothers). (Grandpa was one of 20 children...huge...) Here at the house, we have six horses, 6 chickens (down from 20 thanks to neighbor dog---last warning for them, next will be dead dog AND cops called again), 4 ducks, 2 dogs, and soon to be getting my two cows back from my sister.
For the last two years I'd say, I've been advidly researching my head off about all topics concerning SHTF (look it up), Bugging Out, Prepping, Homesteading and other such stuff. Most things that I'm interested in, I will share on my wall as I don't hide things (except for ex's pictures LOL).
And yes I know, sad to say, but I was one of those you hear about that got started soaping from a Pintrest pin. I honestly though the person was full of **it when I seen the pictures of their soap. I had no idea that it could be done. Four months of solid research before I did my first batch of soap. And since I don't do anything in half measures, I wanted a cupcake soap. So I made cupcake soaps as my first batch. I still have one of those fugly things...and the kids thought I was processing a deer when they came home from school. To this day they hate the Cucumber Melon scent (LMAO).
I was your typical newbie soaper and was buying from normal places, but I started buying from a gal that would do presales of FOs. She asked members of the group if we wanted to learn to do FOs and I jumped at the chance. She told me who to initially contact about getting samples and it was on from there. Nowadays, someone will ask about doing a presale for an item and I'll go research the crap out of it to see if I can make it worth while for my time and your $ value. If I can, then I'll try it. That's how I got involved in the molds. Boy was that a steep learning curve! I learned a lot of valuable lessons, shed more than my fair share of tears, and was over joyed with the amount of love and support from fellow soapers. I honestly do don't this for my own health, but to help out other soapers like myself. I work a full time job, 12 hour shifts rotating and have my schedule in the photos section of the group.
I'll probably add to this ramblings at some point in the future. But at least this is a start...now's whose brave enough to put in their mini book about themselves?
